Volunteer of the year 2023 for the city of Robins is Judy Rohrssen
Judy has for decades given freely of her time in a myriad of activities that promote a sense of community. Judy has been active in the Robins Civic Club since her move to Robins over 18 years ago. She has served on the Civic Club board of directors and as Secretary and Treasurer several terms. Judy led several different Roundup committees as chair and co-chair. Helping out as needed. She continues to provide her support and diligence in contacting sponsors for the Robins Roundup in its 23rd year.  Here is a list of some of areas Judy willingly serves our community.
  • Sponsorship Chair for Roundup in 2010 the civic club looked into creating a parade and community event. Parade Co-Chair/Committee Judy worked tirelessly to reignite the parade after a long pause from having a parade for the Roundup.
  • Judy is one of the two co-founders of our Robins Civic Club Scholarship.  She and Dwayne Wood came up with a plan for the civic club to offer these scholarship opportunities for our Robins High School seniors in 2012. Judy and Dwayne recruited retired teachers in Robins to be on the scholarship selection committee. The number of scholarship winners has grown over the past 12 years as have the dollar amounts. This year, 4 students were awarded $1000 dollars each.  After serving as the chair for over 6 years, Judy remains on the committee.
  • Judy supports the Civic Club fund raising activities to include working with the Venuworks concessions. Judy has actively participated in a variety of fund-raising efforts for the Civic Club.  These efforts help support sponsored City and Civic Club events such as the Robins Round up, Trunk or Treat, Easter Egg Hunt, Picnic tables for South Troy Park, Christmas Tree Lighting, the Dolly Parton Imagination Library and the Scholarships.
  • Judy assisted at the Farmers Market in the inaugural 2023 summer season of the Robins Farmers Market. Judy has volunteered to support as part of the information booth and set up.  She continues her support of the farmers market in the 2024 Farmers Market season.
  • Judy volunteers with an AARP Seniors group to help people with their taxes. Judy, an cconomics major and accountant minor by trade, works with the AARP group providing free tax support at the public library for those who need tax service assistance.  She performs this act of service each year over many years and feels privileged to help others in our community in this manner.
  • Judy volunteers for the Sleep in Heavenly Peace of Linn County, an organization that of volunteers dedicated to build, assemble and deliver top-notch bunk beds to children and families in need.  Judy and her husband, David, started volunteering with the Sleep in Heavenly Peace non-profit organization when David was still employed with Alliant Energy.  Judy said it is such a worthwhile organization. She sees the their contribution of loading the bed parts in their van and building the beds for those families so they may get a good night’s rest.
Judy is well deserving of the recognition by the Robins Civic Club for Volunteer of the year 2023.  The non profit, Sleep in Heavenly Peace of Linn County, will receive a donation check of $200.00 in Judy's honor. Thank you Judy for making Robins a great place to live!
