2022 Robins Civic Club Scholarship Recipients
The Robins Civic Club Scholarship Selection Committee has named Chloe Adams, Hailey Carolan, and Amanda Williams as the 2022 Scholarship recipients. Each of these students receives a $1000.00 award sent to her chosen college. The scholarship committee looks heavily at the Academic excellence and community service endeavors of each of the applicants. Here is a short synopsis of the three selectees’ backgrounds and future plans.
chloe adams
linn-mar high School Chloe Adams is a senior at Linn Mar High School. Chloe earned Academic Achievement with Honors and with Distinction. Chloe saw the value in taking a variety of the Advanced Placement and dual enrollment Kirkwood Community College courses offered and excelled in many of these courses. Chloe was selected as a National Council on Youth Leadership Salute awardee. She is extremely involved in her school organizations and community service opportunities. She is the National Honor Society President. Through her work as the Student Council member and Public Relations/Social Media PR officer, Chloe has raised awareness of the student council and student advisory committees ‘activities schoolwide. Chloe saw another area of concern and worked to improve the visibility of mental health in students. She actively participates with the Mental Health Matters Club that has grown from a just one-week recognition of suicide prevention to a year-round drive to increase awareness and provide resources for students. She works with the UR Environmental and Sustainability Club. Chloe engages in several service-related opportunities with the Key Club both in school and in the surrounding committees Some examples are her over many years helping at the Cedar Valley Humane Society, assisting at Families Helping Families, tutoring other high school students and fundraising for the local food bank HACAP. She is a member of the Varsity Tennis team and recipient of the Mississippi Valley Conference All Academic Honors athlete award for her sport. She competes with the award-winning nationally acclaimed Varsity Linn Mar Show Choir, 10th Street Edition. When not preparing for her academic course load or extracurricular endeavors, she has had part time jobs at the Linn Mar Aquatic Center and Quiznos Subs. Chloe believes that the environment plays a large role in individual achievement, emotions and inspiration. She has chosen interior design as her major to make environments better and to assist others achieve potential with more productive work/play environments. Chloe plans to attend Iowa State University and become an Interior Designer. Chloe is the daughter of Beth and Brandon Adams.

hailey carolan
alburnett High School Hailey Carolan is a senior at Alburnett High School. Hailey excelled Academically earning a cumulative GPA of 4.19. Hailey challenged herself academically with numerous AP and Kirkwood Community College courses. Many courses, such as Human Anatomy/Physiology with labs and Medical Terminology, were to assist her in the pursuit of a career in the medical field. Hailey received recognition as a High Honor Roll achiever and Hailey is a 2022 Governor’s Scholar Award winner. Hailey demonstrated her leadership in positions in the National Honor Society culminating as the NHS President her senior year. Hailey actively participated in the Student Council and as a part of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes leadership team. She worked diligently on the Prom committee which also gave her some of her volunteerism, working concessions many Saturdays to earn money for the post prom event. Hailey participated on Alburnett Volleyball, Basketball, Track and Softball teams as well as being a member of the Poms squad. Hailey used all her team building and leading skills in a variety of community service activities including but not limited to organizing senior citizen luncheons, tutoring middle and high school students, and by being a kid zone safety monitor at our own Robins Roundup 2019 event. She has for the past four years worked in a leadership role organizing Alburnett community area clean ups and mentoring the middle and high school students in conducting these activities. Hailey plans to attend Cornell College and major in Biology. Hailey aspires to complete a master’s degree and to become a Physician Assistant. Hailey is the daughter of Ben and Jill Carolan.

amanda williams
kennedy High School Olivia, also a Linn Mar High school senior, was selected to represent the Marion American Legion Auxiliary 298 as their Girl’s State representative in 2020 for her interest in Government and her leadership and community activities. In school, Olivia played in Concert and Marching bands, and sang in the choir. Olivia was involved in the Linn Mar Democratic Club and worked to get out the vote prior to the 2020 election. She was a member of the National Honor Society. Olivia was recognized for several of her writings. She earned first place in Poetry at the Eastern Iowa Reading Council Poetry contest and a third place at the State level of Iowa Reading Association. She sought and mastered AP courses. Olivia earned Academic letters with Distinction and Honor earning a cumulative 3.97 GPA. Olivia’s impact on the community and her outreach service was second to none. Her major contributions were with the Iowa Project Aware, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources week long river clean up expeditions. Olivia worked with the DNR 3 of the past 10 years. Clearing hazards and cleaning by removing trash and debris in the Iowa Rivers and waterways. Olivia also assisted in local festivals as a volunteer at the information booth for the Cedar Rapids Pride Fest, as a safety monitor in the kid zone at the Robins Round up, on several the Lovely Lane Methodist mission trips post Hurricane Harvey in Texas and in Creston Iowa to assist in clean up, food banks and rebuilding. She, as a Girl Scout, mentored younger girls as a program Aide at the Local Sunshine Valley day camp. In her church she was a kids klub mentor and taught preschool. Musically, she performed with the Zamar handbell and vocal choir. She stayed active in youth group and Vacation Bible Schools staffs. While keeping up with her schoolwork and all her community service endeavors, Olivia also is employed by Amy’s Hallmark as a retail associate Olivia will be attending the University of Northern Iowa and studying political science. Olivia is the daughter of Ike Schneider and Carla Jessen. Amanda Williams, a Kennedy High school senior, made her mark in a variety of areas with her school work, her athletics and in the community. Amanda sought and mastered a great many AP courses and Kirkwood Community College coursework in health-related fields. She is recognized as an AP scholar. She was a National Council on Youth Leadership selectee and she earned Academic numerals and letters as she maintained a cumulative over 4.0 GPA overall and each semester. She is on the Kennedy Honor Roll of Excellence and received the Above and Beyond Award. Amanda was involved in the Kennedy Key Club, National Honor Society and Science National Honor Society in which she held leadership roles. She supported the Student Council. Starting out as a freshman representative and moving up to being the Vice president her senior year. She participated in the Green Bandana Project which is a national mental health awareness and suicide prevention campaign to support peers in getting help. For the past three years, Amanda had been a peer buddy in the organization Best Buddies. Amanda played four years of varsity soccer and was Captain her senior year. She was selected “All-Conference 1st team” in soccer and 2nd team All-Metro. She participated in Club Soccer as well. Amanda swam Varsity all four years earning a Mississippi Valley Conference Honorable mention in swimming. She volunteered as St Luke’s as they started limited volunteers after COVID19 broke. She helped the frontline workers maintaining health and morale needs. Amanda mentored many a youth as a volunteer at the Kenwood Leadership Academy. The Kenwood Leadership Academy is a magnet school in the Cedar Rapids community school district. Amanda interned at Care Pro in Cedar Rapids and learned about the healthcare management side of the company and business. She currently volunteers at Proactive Pediatric Therapy and is absorbing more information in a field where she strives to eventually work. While keeping up with her schoolwork, extracurricular and her volunteer community service endeavors, Amanda continued with paid jobs working with children and adults as a lifeguard and swim instructor at both the Cedar Rapids Aquatics and the Elmcrest Country Club pool. Teaching swimming awakened her interest in pediatric therapy as she assisted young non swimmers in the sport and proper stroke techniques Amanda will be attending the University of Iowa and working towards some type of occupational or pediatric therapy degree program. Amanda is the daughter of Bob and Linda Williams.
