2020 Robins Civic Club Scholarship Recipients
Andrew dupont
xavier High School Andrew, a senior at Xavier High School, was selected as a Governors Scholar and the National Honor Society. Andrew obtained the Distinguished Honor Roll (greater than a 4.25 GPA) for every semester of high school. Andrew challenged himself not only as a four-sport athlete, which required time for games, practice, weight training and camps, but academically, by taking and excelling in multiple Advanced Placement courses. Andrew took Computer Business courses at Kirkwood Community College and used those skills to assist in his high school as a Microsoft Office Specialist. Andrew is a four time All Academic Scholar for both baseball and football. He participated in the Business Professionals of American organization and was a 2020 4-event National qualifier. He was active with the Key Club earning honors there for service completion for performing a variety of community services to include Food bank collection and sorting, child care and cleaning of his place of worship, and any other aid. He was chosen for the position as a Student Senior Mentor as well as selected to be a Student Ambassador. Andrew has garnered all of these accolades will maintaining jobs with Dostal Catering and his lawn care business he conducts in Robins and the surrounding areas. Andrew Dupont is the son Mike and Kris Dupont and plans to attend the University of Iowa and study actuarial science. |
Madison Yauslin
kennedy High School Madison, a Kennedy High school senior, was selected for the National Honor Society. Madison was nominated for the Leadership for Five Seasons program and chosen for the National Council on Youth Leadership. She sought and mastered AP courses and was recognized as an AP Scholar. Madison involved herself in a myriad of organizations making a difference in her designated leadership roles. Some of these roles were, but not limited to, being a Student Council Class officer, a member the Band Council, and a leader in Mentors in Violence Prevention. Madison was a key member of Group and Individual Speech and the Academic Decathlon program. She used her voice in Teens against Human Trafficking and was part of the Show Choir technical crew and the Musical production tech crew. Madison worked at the HyVee Drugstore where she was recognized as an energetic and outgoing employee being a role model for her peers. She was relied upon to train the newer employees. Madison was employed part time at Emery Place Assisted Living and Memory Care while participating in her school and extracurricular activities. She volunteered at the Last Hope Animal Rescue and the Cedar Valley Humane Society as well as her place of worship performing tasks that vary in support of the organizations’ successes. Madison is planning on attending the University of Iowa and studying elementary education and also exploring counseling to assist in elementary and middle schools. ella popenhagen
kennedy High School Ella, a senior at Kennedy High School, was selected for the National Council on Youth Leadership, and was awarded multiple recognitions for her athleticism. Ella, a four-sport athlete, has also maintained over a 4.2 GPA while testing herself with many AP and College courses. Ella earned Kennedy’s Above and Beyond Award, Mississippi Valley Conference All Academic Honors Academic Athlete Awards for Cross Country, Swimming, and Track. Frist team All-Conference for Cross Country and Metro Runner of the Year for Cross Country. She was Mississippi Valley Conference 2nd Team All-Conference for Swimming, Cross Country and Track and all Metro 1st and 2nd Team for swimming, track and Cross Country. Along with being captain of her swim and track teams she was All Metro 1st Team and 2nd Team for Swimming, Track and Cross Country. Her leadership translated to other than the sports teams. She actively participated four years in Best Buddies where she worked her way to the club President and hosted training and opportunities for Best Buddies Ambassador training in and around Iowa and worked with the Special Olympics and AYSO VIP programs to have buddies with each of these programs and events. She is an all-state performer in Contest Speech and student government and the varsity show choir Happiness Incorporated. She studied American Sign Language at Kirkwood Community College increasing her fluency to a level to interpret and also use it to assist the hearing impaired as a future occupational therapist. Her continued work with the Witwer Children’s Therapy Center earned her work a Unity Point Health Volunteer award. Ella assists at her place of worship with the youth group and choir. Ella’s paid employment was as a life guard at the YMCA Helen Nassif location part time and in the summers as a full-time lifeguard at the various Cedar Rapids Recreation Department pools. She will be attending the University of Northern Iowa pursuing a Movement and Exercise Science degree. Ella Popenhagen is the daughter of Carrie and Jeff Popenhagen. |

Civic Club Scholarship Application Available
Information and application forms are available by clicking on the scholarship link with paper copies available at Robins City Hall or Linn-Mar, Kennedy, Xavier, and Alburnett high schools for the 2020 Robins Civic Club Scholarship.
Up to three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to the high school seniors selected and be paid directly to their attending college/ university.
The minimum criteria for consideration is being a Robins resident for at least one year, GPA of 3.4 or higher (on a 4.0 scale), acceptance for Fall 2020 in a full-time course of study leading to an associate degree or higher at an accredited college/ university, and having demonstrated community service/ citizenship.
Special note on transcript: We are accepting a "screen shot" or a download from Powerschool in lieu of an official school transcript. It must contain grades for the fall 2019 semester.
Applications must be received by March 27, 2020.
